Its when you use your credit card at the atm or bank to get cash. Its not a good way to borrow money cause they charge you a lot more interest on that portion of your bill.

  2. margaretfong2 says:

a Cash advance is when you have a "Pin number' from that creditor and you entered the pin number from any ATM and the ATM gave you cash. Beware of these. When you pay off a certain amount from creditors, they deduct the purchases amount. Cash advances they deduct later. Cash advances have a higher interest rate.

  3. Not Laughing w/ U says:

A cash advance is what you get at those places like "Pay Day Advance."

BTW, that's a strange question for a CC application to ask. I've never been asked that.

Also if you don't know what it means then you can probably safely say "zero."

  4. freedomchild99 says:

When you use it to get cash instead of buying something. The rates are usually a lot higher.

  5. exel says:

Cash advance is when you go to a check cashing type place and borrow money against your salary for a percentage of your salary. You borrow $100 and at the end of the month you owe $110. or to be more real, you borrow $100 they give you $90 and on your payday, they automatically deduct $100.
It's a legal form of loan sharking and considered a bad credit ding if you cannot manage your monthly expenses.
You can also take a cash advance from a credit card. this is also at a high intrest rate and also considered a ding in credit reporting.

  6. carlos says:

I think they're talking about Payday Loans

  7. Just Me says:

That's a very strange question. I've never heard of a credit card company ever asking that question…are you sure?

I know some employers (such as my old ones) will give you an interest free loan that you can pay back over an agreed period of time (they take repayment out your wages). Of course, you need an understanding employer.

Be careful about borrowing money off friends and banks… Banks will rip you off with interest repayments and you'll lose your friends if you dont pay them back.

  2. j m says:

use the insurance company. that is how most do it when they have an accident.they will even pay for a rental car. if you dont have insurance then shame on you for driving.

  3. Spirish_1 says:

What resources do you have? If you have a 401k sometimes they offer loans through your 401k that you have to pay back each pay period at decent interest rate. Do you have a credit cared? Can you borrow from your folks? I wouldn't do any type of payday cash advance, they charge outrageous interest rates and you will never ever dig yourself out of the hole to pay that back.

Ask your boss if you can work some overtime to make extra money.

I am currently in China and will be visiting Thailand next week. Is it better for me to get a cash advance with my visa credit card in China (with the Bank Of China) or at the foreign exchange booths at Bangkok airport? The thing is i am getting conflicting reports of the net that the Bank Of China will only do a cash advance in Renminbi and not US dollars. ANYONE KNOWS THE ACTUAL SITUATION ON THIS? I know China has very complex laws regarding the exportation of any Renminbi and further, i am guessing that the Renminbi may yield me a rather low exchange rate for the Baht when i get to Thailand (if indeed, the thai banks will even take my RMB). So i have 2 alternatives:

1.) Do a cash advance with the Bank Of China and get the RMB / USD to change into THB when i get to Thailand

2.) Do a cash advance with the foreign exchange bank booths in Thailand

Which is a better course of action? And is there a big difference in the interest rates for cash advances in China and Thailand?

You can only withdraw or obtain cash advance in RMB in China.

You might want to just have some taxi change etc to change into Thai Baht at either the China or Bangkok airport.

Check to see how convenient for your ATM and/or credit card be obtain local currency withdrawal in Thailand, it might be even more inconvenient than China, but check with your bank anyway just to be certain as you did not mention what bank ATM cards and crdit cards you are holding.

You can actually exchange some USD from banks in China for overseas travel so that you have some cash on you, and you can also purchase travalers checks in China too, just to be on the safe side, instead of carrying too much cash.

I am wondering what place I can go to get some urgently needed cash. I heard of places that give out cash advances but I am not sure what the process is. I was wondering if somebody could help me out in this regard. Also what do they require – do they check credit history check, what is the loan repayment period, etc. Thanks!
What about personal loans from banks?? It'll atleast let me stay regular on my payments and I will get rid of the high interest rates that the credit card companies are charging me. Will it help me with rebuilding my credit?

Honestly if there is any other way for you to get the cash other than using a Cash Advance place do it. They charge you an outragous interest rate to pay it back and it's just not worth it. You'd do better to try and get a secured personal loan from your bank or " credit card " from your bank. Better interest rate and longer pay back time.

  2. kissmymiddlefinger says:

I am not sure what you need the money for but you could get a payday loan
They check to make sure you have a bank account and a job
This is a LAST resort because it is a horrible trap to get into….
Do NOT borrow in this manner if you want to purchase a tv, for example.
I do not think that they check credit history because people with good credit do NOT go there (they dont need to)..
Maybe you can take a valuable item to the pawn shop and get the money that way…what about the bank of mom and dad?
The payment terms vary depending on the amount borrowed etc but I think that most take a post dated check from you…give you some cash for it and deposit your check two weeks later in your bank
ifyou cannot pay the check you go and play the same thing all over again
interest on these loans is often 200% or more

  3. spark72788 says:

I would suggest NOT going to a cash advance place, try going to a bank for a personal loan. Cash advance places charge unreasonable amounts of interest/charges. If you do decide to go there anyway, they usually want proof that you are who you say you are, a recent check stub, and checking/saving account information. I recently looked into a bunch of cash advance places because i needed some money before a trip, but i ended up getting a personal loan from my bank with a lot less interest that if i would have gone to an advance place. If you have no choice to go to an advance place it is an easy fix, but in the long run, try to get money from a bank, you'll pay less.

  4. ♥S & K♥ says:

I used to do this once in a while. Where I live there is a place called "Check Into Cash." To get the cash they require a bank statement, some require a bill such as cell phone or utility to prove your address, last two paycheck stubs and of course your checks so you can write one for them to hold, oh and also your Driver's License. All they do is call your bank to check and make sure you have an account there. Then they look at how much you make and they can only lend you a certain percent of that. They will make you write out a check for that amount to hold until you come back with the cash to pay them off and then they return your check to you. The repayment period is two weeks. You will get a small interest charge on the money you owe and if you repay before the due date some of the interest will be taken off the repayment amount. It's not really a bad idea like people on here are saying. If you try to take a cash advance on a credit card you are going to pay more in interest in the end. If you need quick cash then I would say go for it. Just don't make it a habit.

Does anybody know if the cash advance cashes your check if you forgot to go to the place to repay it, and it goes through fine(does not bounce) can you re loan from them? Thanks

  1. Sheila M says:

As long as you are paid up with them they will gladly reloan it to you.

  2. Fred M says:

if you let that happen, no only will they hit you with more fees, they probably won't let you advance from them again

that is why you should NEVER go to one of those check cashing places
    never, ever, ever

  3. K.D says:

yes they cash it, and as long as you have good credit with them they will re loan.

If you get a cash advance, you will be responsible for the repayment terms you agree too. If you do not pay as agreed, they can take action, including reporting you to credit agencies, enlisting credit collection agencies to get their money and potentially getting a judgement against you.

If you don't have a job, borrowing money is a bad idea. Its better for you to concentrate on finding work – even if its something temporary like McDonald's to cover necessities until you find better job.

  2. Lady says:

Don't get money from a cash advance place, the interest at those places are extremely high. And no, they will not wait for you to get a job. Borrow from your family.

a friedn of mine says he needs 85 dollars to pay on a loan he took out at teh cash advance place. they told him he woudl have a warrent he is 3 months behond in paying will they really put out a warrent? can they?

  1. Greg M says:

no they can't the most they can do is file a civil suit…and for 85 dollars..yeah right….dont let them threaten him about a bounced check either because paying a debt with a check that bounces is not a criminal offense, nor is a check that was post-dated..

  2. Meeeeeeee2007 says:

Actually, bounding a check or post-dating a check can result in criminal charges; it's considered fraud. So be careful about that.

  3. ashley42066 says:

no, they cannot put a warrent out, but they can take him to court, now if he is avoiding the court suit, or avoiding the guy coming to the door to let him know hes being sued, then yes, the law will get invloved.. and really, he is getting screwed because he now is probably paying ALOT from all the intrest .. so he needs to just try and scrounge up that little amount of cash before he ends up owing hundreds. or being taken to court and having to pay all those fees on top of the winning case fine.

Just do a search for "pay day loans" and I'm sure you'll find lots and lots.

  2. Achaholic says:

Need a little info. Do you have a job? a credit card? If you don't have at least one of these, you're probably out of luck unless you have some good/stupid friends

There are places that offer "paycheck loans" which essentially upfront you your paycheck and you have to pay it back when you actually receive it. Unfortunately they are losing propositions and will probably take you further in debt than help you. Most of these loans charge in effect 100-1000% apr. You can find them in the yellow pages under check cashing services

You can do a cash advance if you have a credit card through an ATM which is better than a paycheck loan, but if you can hold out it will be better for your overall

  3. webworm90 says:

Some truck stops do if you need it now. Otherwise, you will need go to an atm. Both require a Credit Card. You will need your Id for the truck stop.

Easy, I had that problem last year.

Go to any bank with either a passport, drivers license or birth certificate (has to be a birth certificate with your photo on) and they'll give you the money!!!!

  2. Cynthia I says:

If you absolutely need a cash advance, call the credit card company (their number should be on the back of the card), as not all credit cards will offer cash advances.Remember that the interest rate is really really high and you will be paying for that cash for a very long time. Make sure you really need it before you go ahead and get it.

a friedn of mien took out a loan with a cash advance place he says he is going to go to jail if he doesn't pay them 85 dollars can they really do that? he owes them 200 and can they really do that?

  1. Tracy L says:

    No, they cannot do that.
The worse they can do is put the check he wrote them through, and he will owe his bank $. heck your state laws. Why the discrepancie in the amounts?? Sounds like your friend want a loan from you!

  2. lisa s says:

I do not think he can go to jail. I know with the cash advance places they normal deduct the money right from your checking(unless the account is closed) then they will come to your home and try and collect the money, if that doesnt work they will take you to court.

  3. LiL' Momma says:

why is this in the pregnancy/newborn section??? And no they can not take him to jail…

  4. hot mama says:

    no
they will just charge him interest until he pays it all

  5. smokeyshadow7 says:

no, they can only come after you by suing you, if your working they can garnish your wadges ,if your on welfare or disablity pensions they cant touch you ,but they will try to threaten you but all they can do is sue you .i suggest to tell your friend to change his bank account until this is settled though ,if he dont want money going missing from his account unexpectily. it could take up to 3 months to garnish your wage if you are working.

  6. lesley s says:

No, they are just threatening you, but stay away from those places the amount of interest they charge you is ridiculous isn't it?

  7. Gypsy says:

When you take out a cash advance loan you have to write them a personal check that they hold until you pay them back. If you don't pay them back on time they cash that check. If it's a bad check and your friend doesn't pay up, it's check fraud. And yes you can go to jail with that. My niece's husband just went through this exact same scenario and almost went to jail, luckily his parents paid it. If your friend is telling you this to borrow money, if you have it to lend then just be sure to go with him to pay it rather than just giving him the money.

  8. butterfly_baby241 says:

cash advance places are a rip-off. they really do charge that much interest. my brother borrowed $400 from one place to repair his car. and he had to pay back $587.45. they get away with it by saying that it's processing fees, insurance fees and by charging about 27% interest. they won't put him in jail though. they may take him to court, but all the judge will do is order him to pay and they may garnish his pay cheque.
